Compass Group is a cutting-edge commercial construction group in Northeast Florida. It began the Courtyard by Marriott and Springhill Suites by Marriott project at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic when labor shortages, supply chain issues, and overall delays were at an all-time high. The construction group aimed to complete the project on time and within budget by keeping its workers employed and persevering through pandemic difficulties with strategic planning and unique management methods to ensure completion.
The challenge
The hospitality project began in November 2019 – only a few months before the pandemic struck and affected businesses across the world. With an initial deadline of spring 2021, the rising cost of supplies and labor shortages raised concerns about the project’s completion, timeline, and cost.
The solution
To keep the project on track, the construction group used both Procore project management software and drone technology throughout construction. The group used drones for site evaluations, construction progress photos, and photography to help sell investors. To combat issues associated with the pandemic, such as owners’ difficulty traveling to the construction site for walks and reviews and conducting large project site meetings, the group incorporated digital platforms as well. To reduce transmission of COVID-19, the group implemented hand-washing stations and additional bathrooms on the site. These elements ensured the project would stay on time and on budget.
